Flute
In my free time, I am an amateur flutist. I have studied flute since 2011, and was a music double major at Pomona College. Currently, I study with Pam Vliek Martchev (San Diego State University). Previously, my primary teachers have been Catherine Ransom Karoly (Los Angeles Philharmonic), Rachel Rudich (Pomona College), and Linda Holland. I also spent two summers in Israel studying with Guy Eshed and Yossi Arnheim of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and four summers studying at the Orford Music Academy in Quebec. You can check out my playing on my YouTube channel!
Research on Mieczysław Weinberg
At Pomona, I conducted extensive research on the Jewish Polish Soviet Holocaust-era composer Mieczysław Weinberg. My music major culminated in an extensive thesis examining qualities of identity, narrative, and memory in Weinberg’s music, and I also presented a recital of my flute transcriptions of his nearly-lost cello works. Two of these transcriptions (the Cello Concertino, Op. 43bis, and Sonata No. 1 for Solo Cello, Op. 72), will be published with the international publishing company Peermusic Classical Europe in Spring 2025. My Concertino transcription was also selected as a winner of the National Flute Association’s 2025 Newly Published Music Competition. I continue be passionate about resurrecting Weinberg’s music.
